MILES FOR A CURE Kaylee Miles, of Adena and her family are working for a way to help find a cure for a chronic autoimmune disease, Type 1 diabetes. Kaylee who is 5, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes last year and she and her family are asking for donations to help raise money to succor a cure. According to the National Library of Medicine, diabetes in when your blood glucose, or blood sugar, is too high. With Type 1 diabetes, your pancreas does not make insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose get into your cells to give them energy. Without insulin, too much glucose stays in your blood. Over time, high blood glucose can lead to serious health problems. Type 1 diabetes occurs most often in children and young adults but can appear at any age. Symptoms may include ·

  • Being very thirsty ·
  • Urinating often ·
  • Feeling very hungry or tired ·
  • Losing weight without trying ·
  • Having sores that heal slowly ·
  • Having dry, itchy skin ·
  • Losing the feeling in your feet or having tingling in your feet ·
  • Having blurry eyesight
A blood test can detect diabetes.

Enduring this illness hasn't been an easy road for the Miles. "Our lives have changed since then, " said Kristy Miles, Kaylee's mom. We had to learn how to give injections, check blood sugar every 2 hours, learn how to count carbs, learn what, when, and how much to feed Kaylee." She continued saying, "Kaylee will never outgrow diabetes, she can't take a pill or go on a special diet to make it go away." She added, "It is a struggle everyday to give our baby injections before she can eat anything, or to see her have a low blood sugar." "Kaylee is a very strong little girl!" Jason and Kristy Miles confided, "She pricks her finger and takes her injections with no fuss." "This has been a life changing experience for Kaylee and ours and she will never outgrow diabetes because she can't just take a pill or go on a special diet to make it go away." They said, "We must do everything we can to help find a cure for this disease so one day we can tell our little angel we have a cure so no more pricks and injections." The Miles family is making a major effort to help to raise money to find a cure by becoming active in two upcoming fund-raisers.

Kaylee's crusade will continue. Aside from her everyday challenges, she and her family will participate in a walk for the cause at the Akron/Canton Pro Football Hall of Fame on September 20, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. You can attend or sponsor Kaylee through pledging a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. [JDRF] Checks should to be made payable to the JDRF, and can be mailed to 398 W. Main Street, Adena, OH 43901. Contact Jason or Kristy Miles at 740.546.3644 for more information.

Beer.....belongs, enjoy it. Beer is America's beverage of moderation. In the home loving land of ours, in this America of kindliness of friendship and good humored tolerance--perhaps no beverages are more at home than good American beer and ale. Beer is the kind of beverages Americans like. It belongs to pleasant living, good fellowship, to sensible moderation and our right to enjoy it! This too, belongs to our American heritage of personal freedom.

    Her Spirit awake above,
